¤ Major Responsibilities:
Wastewater Treatment Plant
Wastewater treatment, wastewater testing; scavenger septage hauler disposal, monitoring and billing; industrial monitoring and surcharge billing; county monitoring and billing; land application of sludge; compliance with federal, state and local wastewater laws and regulations.
Sewer Maintenance
Sanitary sewer maintenance; storm sewer maintenance; maintenance of ditches and culverts; maintain City sewer infrastructure including manholes, catch basins, sewerlines,etc,; provide minimal sewer inspections in conjunction with the Plumbing Inspector; conduct sewer investigations including sewer and lateral dye testing; East End sewer maintenance including variable grade sewers (septic tanks) and grinder pump stations; installations including: new grinder pump stations, catch basins, and sewer lines; provide sewer main locating services.
¤ Standard Services Provided:
Wastewater Treatment Plant
Regular compliance with federal, state and local wastewater laws and regulations; development of long term planning for the City's wastewater needs; provide tours to the public including: regulatory agencies, schools, businesses, economic development groups; offer classroom visits to area schools to discuss water quality and local environmental concerns; provide full service training to employees to meet the demands of the industry.
Sewer Maintenance
Regular compliance with federal, state and local wastewater laws and regulations; respond to all property owner complaints of sewer backups at any hour of the day; determine the source .and cause of sewer backups; cleaning of ditch lines and culverts; general maintenance of the collection system.
¤ Areas of Services Not Generally Known:
Wastewater Treatment Plant
The Zanesville Wastewater Treatment plant is regulated by the Ohio EPA and the U.S. EPA. regular inspections are frequently performed by these agencies. We are also required to monitor the receiving stream both upstream and downstream to determine the effect/impact of the treatment plant discharge on the receiving stream. Several thousand dollars are spent each year monitoring and testing the treatment plant process and the collection system each year for levels of pollutants and degree of treatment. The treatment plant is operated 24 hours a day.
Sewer Maintenance
The City's Sewer maintenance provides 24 hour service to the local residents that are experiencing sewer backups; property owners are encouraged to call Sewer maintenance first prior to calling their plumber as this avoids potential claims; Sewer maintenance does not provide lateral service or maintenance; collection of sewer tap fees and issuing of sewer tap permits takes place at the City's Code Enforcement Office; the City accepts sewage flows from Muskingum County under an Interagency Agreement; monitoring and billing takes place with this division.
