The Fair Housing/Contract Compliance office reviews City of Zanesville contracts to make sure that their Affirmative Action papers are completed and are in compliance with the City's guidelines.
The office also handles discrimination complaints for Zanesville citizens who feel their employee has discriminated \against them. In this capacity the office works in conjunction with the Ohio Civil Rights Commission who does the actual investigation and files the complaint.
It also handles the City of Zanesville's EEO complaints for City employees.
The Fair Housing Office assists people who have been discriminated against in housing related issues. Working with Ohio Civil Rights Commission in filing discrimination complaints.
The office helps tenants and landlord with the Ohio Tenant Landlord law. The office helps interpret the law and advise people as to what their rights are and the steps they need to take to protect them.
The best way to prevent discrimination and landlord-tenant disputes is through education. The Fair Housing Administrator is available to do workshops and seminars on Fair Housing and Landlord-Tenant Responsibilities. We are available to talk to schools, civic groups, realtors, and tenant and landlord associations and for community fairs. The office participates in Winterfest, Professional Day of Sharing, Juneteenth, and the Muskingum County Fair.
The recipient of a FY 2000 New Horizon Fair Housing Grant, the Zanesville office will be working with Muskingum County Fair Housing in a series of workshops to educate homeowners and potential homeowners on the pitfalls of predatory lending and ways to become a homeowner. There will also be a session available to lenders and realtors on Predatory Lending.

Ensures compliance with civil rights rules and regulations for city employees and residents; including, but not limited to, investigation of employment, sexual harassment, ADA, and other related complaints; counseling and referral service concerning various employment and housing laws; problems or alleged discrimination; other housing-related information; workshops; guidance for minority and female-owned businesses.

Information and referral is available or will be obtained regarding any housing or employment problems of employees or residents of the City; Confidentiality assured when at all possible.
