The Zanesville Fire Department is proud to announce the City of Zanesville has completed its Public Protection Classification (PPC) evaluation by Insurance Services Office, Inc. (ISO) and effective Feb 28 2021, the City of Zanesville will carry a Class 2 ISO Rating. Zanesville has improved from a Class 3 rating from our last evaluation. This is the highest rating that has ever been achieved by the Zanesville Fire Department.
ISO evaluates the capabilities of the Fire Department to respond to and mitigate structure fire incidents, and assigns each fire department a Class, or PPC rating, based on a 1-10 scale, with 1 being the top score. The grading considers three main factors – fire department capabilities, water supply, and emergency dispatch communications. This Class 2 rating puts us in the top 1772 Fire Departments in the United States, which represents the 95th percentile of all rated fire departments. As of 2020, there were 393 Class 1 and 1772 Class 2 Fire Departments, out of approximately 41,000 ISO evaluated Departments in the US.
ISO compiles information on fire departments across the nation, in particular for use by the insurance industry. Fire insurance premiums for residents and commercial businesses can be affected by positive or negative changes in a Fire Department’s ISO rating, so this upgrade to our ISO rating can have positive effects on our residents and business owners in the City of Zanesville.
This Class 2 rating improvement is a testament to the hard work of the entire Fire Department staff and the continued backing we have received from the City of Zanesville Administration and Council.
